Superior Application
Why is the airbrush tan so highly valued and chosen by famous celebrities? The instrument of choice for subtle effects by professional
illustrators, the airbrush gives an unprecedented level of detail, control, and shading. The airbrush tan is a sunless tan that cannot
be duplicated by foams, lotions or even aerosol "tan in a can" sprays. It is the ability of the airbrush to achieve a natural
application and the attention of a skilled technician to the finest detail that sets the airbrush tan apart.
Can you afford not to?
If you are starting a tanning salon or looking for new services to add to your current business, the low entry cost, quick learning
curve, and huge popularity of spray tanning make it a virtual, can't miss opportunity. Tanning beds and spray booths cost tens of
thousands of dollars. In contrast, a complete airbrush spray tanning unit with supplies can be purchased for hundreds of dollars.
Put simply, can you afford not to offer this service?
Instant Tan
The typical spray tanning solution contains two "tanning" agents. The first is an immediate bronzer, simply a dye, that serves as a
color guide for the airbrush technician and to give an instant tanning effect. The second is DHA, an FDA approved compound for external
application, that reacts with the outermost layer of skin to produce a tan. In 8-10 hours the DHA tan is fully developed. The first
shower is recommended at about 12 hours. At this time, much of the immediate bronzer will wash off revealing the new sunless tan!

we are only a phone call or email away.
Three Steps To Profit
There are three steps to achieving an effective, long lasting sunless spray tan, each an opportunity for additional profit: exfoliation,
the spray tan service, and moisturization. Each of these steps is examined in the following.
Step 1: Pre-Sunless -- Start with a Good Foundation
The active ingredient in an airbrush Tan, DHA, reacts with the outer layer of skin to produce a tan. The longevity of the tan is subject
to the natural renewal cycle of the skin. The first step to ensure a long lasting tan is to exfoliate the skin to provide a good base
for the airbrush tan. Typically this is done the night before your airbrush tanning session. Take advantage of the profit opportunity
in this step by offering a good physical dermal exfoliant for resale. Our complete array of pre-sunless products is found here: Pre-Sunless Product Line.
But, many clients don't properly exfoliate. Or, they make a spontaneous decision to walk-in for a sunless spray tan. To overcome these
issues, a pre-tan skin preparation spray may also be used. While not containing physical dermal exfoliating particles or beads, the
formula does remove oils, perfumes, and perspiration. Spray one ounce on the client , applied with a spray
bottle or airbrush, and have them towel off, a paper towel works great, and they’re ready for their spray tanning session. The use of
the skin prep formula supports a higher service charge. The Tanning Store offers a prep spray from Ocean: Ocean Pre Tan Skin Prep.
Step 2: The Airbrush Tan
Airbrush Tanning Procedure
The recommended application amount for spray tanning is about 2 Ounces of solution per client. At this rate of application, a quart
would result in 16 applications, a half gallon would do 32, and a gallon would do 64. The Tanning Store offers tanning solution in
convenient sizes and in different price ranges. For a gallon size, prices range from less than $100 per gallon to about $150 per
gallon. At the 2 Oz application amount, the cost per application will be $2.34 per client for the most expensive solution. However,
many technicians have difficulty sticking to the 2 Oz suggestion, spraying closer to 3 Oz. While larger clients will require more,
restraint will result in fewer problems and lower cost. In spray tanning, restraint is usually rewarded with better results.
The Tanning Store offers a number of quality solutions from leading manufacturers: Mystic Tan, Ocean, Aviva Labs, Focus, and React.
With so many offerings you can pick the solution best suited to your client. Consider a solution program catering to the Skin Type of your client.
This will distinguish you from your competition.
How much can be charged for a sunless spray tanning session? This depends on local market conditions. How many competitors do you have?
What’s the income level of your area? Is it a resort area? Ultimately, supply and demand determine what the local market will bear.
The price range may be from $20-$50 per session, or perhaps more in an exclusive area. You can also have starter packages, tanning
parties, facial packages, and packages where you bundle the service and resell exfoliants and moisturizers.
Airbrush Equipment
Don't sabotage your new service with shoddy equipment. The Tanning Store's Salon Series equipment line is built around the premium
Iwata and TurboAir brands -- the Mercedes of airbrush equipment. The Iwata and TurboAir brands work good and look good, sporting clean, technical
design -- not a spartan industrial appearance -- helping you to project a professional image. Furthermore, even the biggest Iwata and TurboAir compressors
are ultra quiet providing a work environment free of disruption and conducive to conversation with your client. The great news is that The Tanning Store discounts
Iwata and TurboAir equipment. So, before you buy a cheap, loud, industrial looking unit, check with us. For about the same or less money you can
have an Iwata or TurboAir!
Step 3: Moisturization & Maintenance
Moisturize, moisturize, moisturize! It's hard to overemphasize the importance of a proper moisturization regimen in achieving a long
lasting spray tan. Recommend moisturization morning and night the day after a spray tanning session and at least once a day thereafter.
Two classes of moisturizers exist, distinguished by whether they contain an active tanning ingredient -- DHA. Both types of
moisturizer work well and can be used together or separately for an effective moisturization program. Moisturizerss with DHA typically
contain 3% or less DHA active tanning ingredient and are effectively “light” sunless lotions. In comparison, a full strength Sunless
lotion may contains 5--8% DHA. With a lower concentration of DHA, the DHA Tan Extender lotions may be used daily to maintain the tan or
deepen its impact. Since DHA can have a mild drying effect, some technicians prefer a tan extending moisturizer without DHA for daily
use. The Tanning Store offers a number extenders and moisturizers: Post Sunless Tanning Products.
Conclusion
In summary, spray tanning is a service with exploding demand, requires a low investment, and can be mastered in a relatively short
time. And when backed by products and resources at The Tanning Store, you’ll know you are offering the finest professional products
available at a very reasonable cost. At The Tanning Store, every season is tanning season!
